Thanks to all who joined the fun of the bi-annual Northeast/Nutmeg event celebrating the best of food and beverage in the Northeast. Food professionals from all over the region donated their time as well as goodie bag and door prizes for the attendees.

We heard from high school science fair winners as well as our Graduate Student winner Sulaiman Aljasir. We had a fantastic turn out and evening!

We heard great presentations from all and enjoyed a delicious meal at the Hub and Spoke in Fairfield.

Our fall event was a trip to Gouveia Vineyards in Wallingford for wine tasting followed by a delicious dinner in the historic and beautifully restored Library Winebar. While their our section historian John Dwyer gave a talk about the history of our section!

Bridgeport Rescue Mission joined us to talk about food donations and support for those communities in need, and we collected canned goods to support the great Thanksgiving Project.

Karin Rotem, Ph.D.
SVP of Beverages R&D, PepsiCo
Dr. Karin Rotem is currently SVP Research & Development for the Global R&D Teams. She is responsible for the Beverage R&D Centers in NAB, LAB, China/APAC, MEA/India, and Europe. Dr. Rotem’s team objective is to meet the needs of the local consumer by bringing to life the Business AOP while working with R&D partners to secure a robust and healthy portfolio for the future. Dr. Rotem has been with PepsiCo for 16 years and prior to PepsiCo, has worked at Nestle, Merck, and IBM. She earned her Ph.D. in the field of Computational Chemistry from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and her BS in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University. Dr. Rotem considers herself a Global Citizen. Her passion is experiencing global cuisine and understanding the connection to local culture. She grew up playing tennis and soccer, enjoys hiking through urban jungles (aka big cities), and now more than ever dabbles with lifestyle technology that can enhance healthy living. Dr. Rotem and her husband, Jeroen, spend most of their current free time raising 2-year old boy/girl twins, Jade and Justin.

Taste of New England
The nutmeg section had a fantastic time joining up with the New England IFT section for our biannual gathering to celebrate the best foods made in the region held this year in Quincy MA.
Manny thanks to all of the suppliers who contributed their time, product and cash donations.
Their names will soon be posted for all to see.
All product was given out to attendees, and any leftover perishable and non perishable foods were donated after the event to the local Ronald McDonald house. The patrons of which were most appreciative for the generous support.
